Guided Dry Fly Stream Fishing for Blue Ribbon Trout
Welcome to Avalanche Basin Outfitters - We offer premium guided flyfishing trips on some of the finest private waters in central Montana. Based in White Sulphur Springs; we are located between the Big Belt, Little Belt, and Castle Mountain Ranges. The Smith River and its tributaries flow for 30 miles through ranch and timberlands, inviting anglers to an excellent variety of waters and fish – 95% of our fishing is on private ranches.

We fish the following waters:

5 miles of private land on the upper Smith River between White Sulphur Springs and the Camp Baker floating access, plentiful big Browns – June 1 through October 15.

8 miles of Rock Creek, tributary to the Smith, a blue ribbon spring fed creek flowing completely on private land – May 15 through October 15.

1 mile of Sheep Creek, a challenging mountain stream with fast riffles feeding into pools and a lot of large rock jutting up above the surface – July 1 through September 15.

3 miles of Butte Creek, an excellent small dry fly fishing stream full of nice trout – June 15 through October 1.

Spring Creek Lake, private, 8.9 surface acres and 30 ft. deep, offers Rainbows from 2 to 5 lbs. and Brookies from 12” to 18” long – May 15 through October 15.

Keep Cool Lake, 35 surface acres and 40 ft. deep, is also privately owned. Many 16” to 21” hard fighting Kamloops Rainbows and Brown Trout – May 1 through October 15.

1 mile of private land on the Musselshell River. It averages 15 yards wide, and 3 ft. to 8 ft. deep, lots of big Browns – July 1 through October 15. Excellent late summer hopper fishing.

We also float an amazing 70 miles of the Yellowstone River, from Gardiner to Big Timber with a Hyde 16’ Drift Boat.

We ask everyone to be able to fish both wet and dry. We realize most people like to fish dry flies, and consider that on all trips. Poor weather conditions, water levels, and water temperatures will affect all waters we fish. Even under the best of conditions, some days do not fish well.

We will fish any and all hours during the day, including daybreak to dark. On days when high, muddy water conditions exist, we fish the lakes and do very well.

We are booking the 2008/2009 seasons at this time. Please contact us to reserve the dates that interest you. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Doug and Zita Caltrider
